Atmospheric Boundary Layers: Nature, Theory and Applications to Environmental Modelling and Security
This volume presents a set of peer-reviewed papers following the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Atmospheric Boundary Layers. The workshop was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in April 2006. Fifty-seven researchers from 21 countries and 4 continents participated. The program consisted of 3 introductory talks, 9 key lectures, and 27 regular presentations divided into thematic sessions: nature and theory of turbulent boundary layers ; boundary-layer flows: modeling and applications to environmental security ; nature, theory and modeling of boundary-layer flows ; air flows within and above urban and other complex canopies: air-sea-ice interaction. This volume reflects all these topics and serves as a state-of-the-art summary of the latest findings and applications in atmospheric boundary layers. The workshop also paid tribute to Professor Sergej Zilitinkevich - a major part of the presentations was based on or linked to his fundamental works.
Atmospheric turbulence; emergency preparedness; environmental security; PBL parameterisations in climate; Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL); weather and air quality modelling
