Cotherapy in the PTSD group

Key role of our psychotherapy programme for PTSD patients plays group psychotherapy. It consist of 40sessions in small groups, 12to 14 members, conducted co-therapeutically with the stress on the working through traumatic experience.According to our experiance, cotherapeutic approach in PTSD patients group has some special advatages but potential disadvatages too.In the work with 12 groups conducted by various cotherapysts, we wonted to investigate how the relations between cotherapists influenced the group process. Therefore we applied the questionaries that inquired various variables of cotherapysts interrelations and supervisors and consultants observations. Results shoved that: -final succes or feilure of the group work depends in a great part on cotherapeutic pair interrelation:if it is uneasy, too close, competitive or cotherapysts disagree about the style and stretegy, there is a poor chance for the effective work of a group -the relation among the cotherapysts changes through phases of group development and sometimes become inverse, -group members often try attention to cotherapysts reaction and they use it as a group resistance.Cotherapeutic conducting as a whole multiplicates group resistance significantly more than in the situation of one conductor.
