Population-Genetic Analysis of Certain Morphophysiological Traits in the Population of Rijeka, Croatia (III)
A population-genetic analysis was carried out in 966 persons (392 males and 574 females) from the population of Rijeka. The authors examined 23 morphophysiological traits under the assumption that each trait is controlled by a corresponding gene. A statistically significant difference was found in 10 phenotypic characteristics between the male and female groups, which indicates that the genetic structure between sexes differed in 43.8% of allelogenes (Fst=0.0043). The average homozygosity was higher in females (7.01± ; ; 0.09) than in males (6.54± ; ; 0.12) and the difference was statistically significant (t=3.20 ; p<0.01). A statistically relevant difference between the obtained and expected values of recessive homozygosity (p<0.001) indicates increased recessive homozygosity in relation to the expected value in male and female groups.
