Influence of Water on the Process of Aminopropilsilanetriol Polymerization
Previous studies of aminopropylsilanetriol (APST - NH2CH2CH2CH2Si(OH)3), performed by different scientific groups, were dominantly concentrated on light, temperature and conformation/substrate dependence of the polymerization process [1- 4]. This research is focused more to the presence of water molecule since the polymerization process of APST (otherwise good coupling agent) was not explained to the point of satisfaction in spite of many efforts over the last decade. In the course of our previous studies polymer sheets of the best mechanical and optical quality were obtained by slow evaporation of water starting from 25% water solution at room temperature, in the dark. Within the present study such samples were exposed to the influence of various levels of vacuum for some time. Also, after a rapid evaporation (evacuation to ≤ 5mbar) a water solution and its vapors were studied by means of Raman spectroscopy.
