Tram wheel vibrations dependence on the rail surface geometry in weld zone
The wheels of rail vehicles play an important role in driving the tram through the wheel-rail interaction. Different irregularities on the wheels (wheel flats, non-round wheel form) and on the rail running surface (corrugations, rail weld geometry) were the main causes for an increase in vibrations. Wheel vibrations measurements were performed on the new low floor tram type TMK 2200 manufactured by CROTRAM (Croatia). These tram vehicles features wheels with elastic elements, the resilient wheel type Bochum 84. During measurements of tram wheel vibrations in the Zagreb tram network, vibration shocks were recorded every 15 m (the interval of rail welds). This fact was the main reason behind the investigation of the influence of the rail running surface geometry in the weld zones on tram wheel vibrations. After conducting wheel vibrations measurements, the vertical geometry of rail weld zones was measured on the same segment of tram track. This paper presents the measurement results and the possibility of reducing tram wheel vibrations.
