Strong-column Weak-beam Design Methodology for R/C Frames

Suggested methodology ensures fulfilment of the strong-column weak beam design concept in R/C frames even during the extreme earthquakes of the unknown characteristics. It combines linear elastic analysis for the design loads and limit design of the sections. Beams are designed according to the results of linear elastic analysis. Flexural capacity of the columns is overdesigned to that of the beams. Required minimum shear strength of the beams, columns and beam-column joints is obtained from the flexural capacity of beams and minimum ductility requirements.
