Ignition Tabulation Of Automotive Fuels For ECFM-3Z Combustion Model
Some of the methods for auto-ignition tabulation including cool flame ignition will be presented in this paper, focused on several automotive fuels. Current use of these fuels in combustion simulations did not include the phenomenon of cool flame ignition and the ignition data tabulations for two fuels presented (methane and ethanol) have not been performed so far. Taking these into account could improve numerical simulations of combustion in CI engines with wider application spectrum. The methodology of the ignition tabulation procedure has been proven to work well with different types of fuels. Current methods of auto-ignition computation in AVL's code "FIRE" (used in ECFM-3Z combustion model) are based on the extraction of ignition delay times from tabulated data dependent on four parameters: temperature, pressure, air excess ratio and EGR mass fraction. The methods described here were used to reduce time for creation of new extended tables (including cool flame) using more complex chemical mechanism in the case of n-heptane. Adaptation of tabulation procedure when using complex chemistry is based on results acquired from simpler mechanism. The methods and ideas behind implementing the cool flame data into the ECFM-3Z model will also be presented as well as comparative display of the ignition data of three fuels of interest.
