Cool Flame Ignition Tabulation For ECFM-3Z Model
Some of the methods for auto-ignition tabulation including cool flame ignition will be presented in this paper, focused on n-heptane fuel. Current n- heptane tabulation (used to simulate Diesel fuel behaviour in IC engines) did not include the phenomenon of cool flame ignition. Taking this into account could improve numerical simulations of combustion in CI engines. There is also a possibility for using the tabulation methodology with other fuels of interest (ethanol, octane). Current methods of auto-ignition computation in AVL's code "FIRE" (used in ECFM-3Z combustion model) are based on the extraction of ignition delay times from tabulated data dependent on four parameters: temperature, pressure, air excess ratio and EGR mass fraction. The methods described here were used to reduce time for creation of new extended tables (including cool flame) using more complex chemical mechanism. Adaptation of tabulation procedure when using complex chemistry is based on results acquired from simpler mechanism. The methods and ideas behind implementing the cool flame data into the ECFM-3Z model will also be presented as well as initial results of CFD simulation.
