CFD ANALYSIS OF FLOW AROUND GENERIC BUS GEOMETRY

Flow around a generic bus geometry is investigated by a series of stationary 2-D computations based on the solution of RANS equations. Analysis of the results obtained with different sizes of the computational flow domain and different combinations of boundary conditions is used to find a proper choice of these parameters for the future, more expensive 3-D unsteady computations. It is shown that placing the flow domain boundaries too close to the investigated body can significantly alter the resulting drag coefficient. The calculations with a subsequently refined 2-D generic bus geometry show the influence of windshield inclination and roundness of the geometry corners on the local flow and the global aerodynamic coefficients.
