The Particle Eda in Croatian Glagolitic Texts
The author describes the use of the particle eda in Croatian Glagolitic texts and compares the situation in them with the Old Church Slavonis situation.Leaving aside scribal errors, it can be seen that the particle eda has preserved all functions in CCS, which it had in OCS. It can introduce interrogative, optative, final and hypothetical clauses. Besides, it has taken over from the Croatian vernacular the function of a modal particle designating uncertainty, eventuality or doubt. Moreover, the author has noted several examples in which this particle has causative meaning, which has not previously been noted either in OCS or in Croatian. Hopefully, future research will show whether this function was taken over from the Croatian vernacular or from some other redaction of Church Slavonic.
