Preliminary studies on reproduction and early life stages in rearing trials with dusky grouper Epinephelus marginatus (Lowe, 1834)
Artifical spowning using broodstock was raised from wild fingerlings. The development of gonads was followed once a month by taking biopsy samples. The fish were injected with 2000 IU kg-1 of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in first year and with 200 mg kg-1 analogues of mammalian luteinizing hormone releasing hormone LHRH(a) in second year. One female treated with LHRH(a) produced 580 g of eggs. The fertilization rate was 95%. Hatching started 30 h after fertilization at 23 °C. The total length of newly hatched larvae was 1.52ą0.066mm.
