Fatigue stress concentration factor for shafts with different keyways in bending
The machine shafts and beams with different grooves, fillets, keyseats and holes are typical examples for fatigue strength reduction which can be described with fatigue stress concentration factors. As most of these factors are not known, especially for bending, the main goal of this research was to determine the fatiguestress concentration factors Kf for complete reversal bending loads of a round shaft with two types of keyways: milled-end (semicircular) and sled-runner end keyways. The fatigue tests were carried out using a rotating beam machine which was designed and built at FESB - University of Split, Department of Mechanical Engineering. all Tests are summarized as S-N (Wöhler) curves and briefly discussed in this paper.
