Understanding Orthophragminids:The Paleoenvironmental Indicative Fossils?
The five orthophragmina biofacies, ranging in age from the Middle Lutetian to the beginning of the Bartonian, have been recognized based on distribution of faunal association (in terms of its composition and changes), planktic/benthic ratio, algal endosymbiont in larger benthic foraminifera, and lamella thickness and flattening of shell shape.
