Thermodynamic criteria of carbon dioxide injection into Ivanić oilfield

The greenhouse gas - CO2 is a dominant medium for oil displacement in EOR methods (Enhanced Oil Recovery Methods). Currently 12 % of daily oil production in the USA is a result of injection of some miscible fluids, i.e. the result of the process in reservoirs caused by the injection of miscible fluids. The positive effects of CO2 injection are: oil viscosity reduction, swelling factor, density changes, etc. The greenhouse CO2 as a by-product of every industry and photosynthesis in plants is more widely used now than 10 years ago. The most important factors during injection of CO2 are the knowledge of CO2 physical characteristics, and thermodynamic conditions during injection. As part of a pilot project, CO2 has been injected into the gama reservoir of the Ivanić oilfield, since 2003. During CO2 injection, some polytrophic changes occurred. These changes within the tubing during injection are described theoretically and analytically. A secondary positive effect of the injection of greenhouse gases like CO2 is its sequestration which is important now in the EU, according to the Kyoto Protocol.
