Slapnica valley - Carnian strata

The Slapnica Formation is composed of dolomites. sporadically with interlayers of tuffaceous clays, clayey marls, marls and sandy marls. The main characteristics of this formation is a rhythmical alternation of dolomicrites, fenestral dolomicrites and dolostromatilites with "shallowing-upward" cycles, deposited in a typical tidal environment with progradation from subtidal, over deeper intertidal to shallow intertidal zones. Very scarce fossiliferous dolomite layers include alga Clypeina besici PANTIĆ, widely distributed and typical for the Carnian stage.
