Detailed Chromatographic Analysis of Kerosene
Knowing the detailed hydrocarbon composition and distribution of aromatic hydrocarbons in the kerosene used for blending of diesel fuel is very important for foreseeing the final commercial product quality. Different chromatographic techniques (HPLC, GC, GC/MS) were used for determination of composition. This paper presents the determination of gas oil group-type composition by means of gas chromatography, as well as determination of the unsaturated hydrocarbons content by means of liquid chromatography. In this work, HPLC fractionation step for saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon separation was performed by the prepared silver- modified silica gel column. Both fractions were analyzed further on capillary GC and GC/MS for detailed composition. Unsaturated fraction group- type content was determined by the „ back flushing” analytical NP HPLC. Using high- resolution GC individual composition of saturated and unsaturated fractions was performed. Presence of aromatic compounds was checked by GC/MS. Aromatic and olefin contents of the unsaturated fraction were observed by means of the normal- phase high-performance liquid chromatography (NP HPLC). Analysis was performed on a polar column with a non-polar mobile phase and with the use of an UV/DAD.
