The Overview of Trends and Developments on the Croatian Balance of Payments
Tha aim of this paper is to present domestic and external factors which have had a significant impact on the balance of payments developments in Croatia since 1993 (wage movements, repatriation of foreign exchange savings, sovereign rating, interest rates, external debt rescheduling, budet deficit, exchange rate and capital inflows), the analysis of movements on the current, capital and financial accounts, as well as the composition of current account deficit financing. Due to the fact that the largest part of trading in goods and services took place with the EU countries and that about 70% of transactions were realized in the EUR zone, the EU process of accession is very important for Croatia. It is expected that further strengthening of trade relations with the EU will probably help reduce both the Croatian trade and current account deficits.
