Theory and Development of an Online Navigation System
The paper presents the development of an online navigation geographic information system (GIS), based on GIS data models and graph theory. Basic modules of the system are described, together with the underlying theory. Some important abstraction concerns are briefly discussed. Data models are elaborated, such as the node-arc model, as well as shortest path problems for determining the shortest path to a destination and optimal path walks visiting all nodes on all edges and the concept of one-way streets Proof of the concept is provided at the development of the Mapandwalk system for the city of Varaždin.
