The Future of Television – TV Programs vs. Global Online Video Distribution Platforms
Rapid technological development causes important transformations in society and in economy. Those transformations reflect on, beside other, development and changes of media industry. Technological improvements have produced a new multimedia environment breaking down the traditional boundaries between telecommunications, computers and audiovisual industries. Online platforms such as MySpace and YouTube, are proof that only man’ s creativity can be the limit for new interactive multimedia contents and services. At the same time, consumers have the possibility to create their own multimedia contents and to communicate with other people on different levels. The questions are: Which are new frames of journalism, and regarding the process of general digitalization and media convergence, is it possible to predict the future of “ old media” , especially of television which is still the most influential? This proposed presentation will argue the possibility of survival of television programs with pre-defined program schemes and broadcast schedules in relation to new global online video distribution platforms such as Joost. Furthermore, in context of the crisis of public communication, this presentation will offer a future model of converged public media service.
