The effect of liming on sugar beet yield and qualitiy
These investigations aim to determine effect of carbocalk calcization on sugar beet yield and quality.Dose of 15 t/ha and 30t/ha of carbokalk (byproduct in the Osijek Sugar factory), was applied on the chosen plot in autumn 1999. Carbokalk contained 48.2 % of CaO. The plot was selected on the basis of a soil analysis, i.e. two acid soils was chosen (pH in KCl 3.8-soil A and pH in KCl 4.2-soil B). At the beginning of April 2002 (soil A) and 2004 (soil B) was cropped two sugar beet hybrids in four replicates. The basic plot amounted 15 m2. Depending on the added amount of carbokalk pH value varied: soil A from 3.8 to 5.13 (15 t/ha), i.e. to 6.70 at 30 t/ha carbokalk and soil B- from 4.21 to 5.79 (15 t/ha), i.e. to 7.32 at 30 t/ha carbokalk. Carbokalk fertilization considerably affected sugar beet root yield and quality. In generally, the best results (root yield and sugar concentracion) was with 15t/ha carbocalk calcization and the worst on control (0t/ha). Based on the investigations carbocalk liming of acid soils is recommended.
