Determination of anionic surfactants in real systems using 1, 3-didecyl-2-methyl-imidazolium-tetraphenylborate as sensing material
A new sensitive anionic surfactant sensor has been prepared, based on 1, 3-didecyl-2-methylimidazolium- tetraphenylborate ion-exchange complexes as a sensing material incorporated into plasticized PVC-membranes. The sensor exhibited a Nernstian response (59.3 mV/decade) in the range of 4 × 10− 7– 5 × 10− 3 mol/l for dodecylsulfate and a near-Nernstian response (57.8 mV/decade) in the range of 8×10− 7– 6×10− 4 mol/l for dodecylbenzensulfonate. The main application of the sensor described was indication of the end-point in ion-pair surfactant potentiometric titrations. The sensor showed satisfactory analytical performances within a pH range of 2 to 12. The influence of the widely used types of nonionic surfactants on the determination of anionic surfactants was negligible if the mass ratio EONS:AS was not greater than 5. The sensor exhibits excellent selectivity performances for DS over almost all organic and inorganic anions investigated.
