Problems and perspective of wood trade development in Croatia
Industrial wood processing – particularly furniture manufacture as its most profitable branch – has always been a significant segment of Croatian economy. At the time of globalization with new possibilities of technological progress, the rise of productivity through new models, techniques and management organizations, Croatian industry remains extremely poor and technologically dated activity, undefined in terms of programming. Changes are necessary in view of introducing new technologies, new products, design, brand, improved education and knowledge. The employment in industrial wood processing continues to fall, though not as significantly as in previous years. Due to the outdated and low production, the unfulfilled capacities and undeveloped production of higher processing phases, the total income of the industrial wood processing is unsatisfactory, when compared to the potentials of raw materials. In order to improve the competitiveness of wood processing on the international market, the programming and market references of this promising industrial branch should be accelerated. This would entail indispensable financial and professional assistance.
