Evaluation of oral hygiene habits in high-school students in Kutina, Rovinj and Zagreb
The basic condition for keeping teeth healthy is an educated and motivated patient. Thanks to a questionnaire made on 302 students, aged 17 to 19, from Zagreb, Rovinj and Kutina the interviewers have found out that students do not have basicknowledgel on oral hygiene and both protection and prevention of their teeth. Infect, 31 % of the youth has never learned how to properly brush teeth, and most of them had as instructors their parents insteead of the dentist. Though a lot of students have never seen how to properly brush teeth, the 70% of them clean their teeth twice or more a day, but the 80% of them does not use dental floss. Although the youths oral health perception is rlatively high, their oral diseases perception is quite low, but this fact is irrelevant because even the most obstinate orally educated patients do not practice most of the preventive cares. As a reason of this last statement, the interviewers think that mostof the students try to hide the bad aspects of their teeth with a fake optimism due to the tendency of overemphasizing the teeeths beauty instead of the health.
