Health complaints and possible combined health effects caused by formaldehyde and acrolein exposure in an office building-case study
Acrolein and formaldehyde concentrations were measured in an office building with the automobile service situated on the underground floor of the same building. Samples were collected at 18 indoor and two outdoor measuring sites, as well at the two sites located inside the automobile service. Investigation was performed twicw, when automobile service was operating (second period) and out of operation (first period). The results showed highly elevated acrolein concentrations during both measuring periods. At the same time an epidemiological investigation was carried out, to collect data on health complaints and health status of office workers. In the absence of other explanations the increase of symptoms could be attributed to formaldehyde and acrolein exposure.
