The Accuracy of Time-of-Flight Measurement Data Analysis
The accuracy of results obtained from the statistical analysis of experimental data in laser pulsed time-of-flight measurement system is discussed. The confidence interval method and point estimator for parameters of random variable have been used to calculate the number of sample measurements that satisfy the allowable uncertainty of the measured results. The single-shot time resolution of 40 ps in our system, based on 2000 sample measurements, was performed. 100 averaging obtained the inherent resolution (10 ps) of the time interval measurement method. That enables range or distance measurements with resolution in the millimeter range.
