Perspectives for Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide in Croatia
Construction of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) systems might help Croatia to meet the Kyoto targets in the next decade already. There are various reservoir formations in the southern Pannonian basin and in the Adriatic off-shore that could be prepared for this permanent, geological storage. Depleted oil and gas pools might be used in the beginning, particularly in the initiated EOR operations, but by far the largest potential is seen in the regionally extending deep saline aquifers.
