Effect of temperature on strength development of fly ash stabilized mixes
A laboratory investigation of the properties of stabilized roadway base course materials is presented. Stabilizing mixtures were designed using the sand from River Drava, cement and fly ash. The fly ash in the binder did not have any noticeable hydraulic properties (content 2, 5% CaO) and it could be used only in combination with other hydraulic binders, cement in this case. Special attention is given to the description of the effects of change in the treatment temperature and the time of sample treatment on mechanical properties of the stabilized mixes, primarily compressive and tensile strengths. The uniaxial test was used to determine the compressive strength, while the indirect tensile test was used to determine the tensile strength. The curing temperature of samples were from 5oC to 35oC and the examination results show a signifficant effect of the curing temperature on the strength development.
