Preliminary Results of Wind Energy Potential Research in Croatia
The paper discusses the main results of wind energy potential research over the coastal part of Croatia. The wind regime analysis on the meteorological stations with wind speed and direction measurements show great spatial and temporal wind speed and direction variations and great wind speed dependance on the measurement site location. Consenquently, the wind regime analysis gave a right picture only for the measurement sites. wind regime on the locations without measurements was estimated using the WA^sP model. Results obtained indicate specific locations (mountanious regions on the coast and islands) along the coast where the mean annual wind speed on 25 m above the sea level exceeds 5 m/s and wind power exceeds 700 W/m^2 could be expected. The results show necessity for new wind speed and direction measurements at several levels (10m, 30m and 50m) which will enable verification of wind potential estimation and knowledge of the new eind regime characteristics.
