The structure of Utilization of Oak (Quercus robur L.) Biomass in Final Felling
Total timber supply of oak in Croatian forests is 41, 5 million m3 with the annual yield of 717 656 m3, 48% of which goes to commercial roundwood, 33% to cordwood and 19% to cull. This study shows the results of a research into total oak biomass with a special emphasis on crown biomass as an energy source. The assortment method was used for felling and trimming. Total solid volume was determined using the 3 cm diameter sectioning method while the gravimetrical method was used for small branches. The sample consisted of 6 oak tree stems with the breast height diameter ranging from 36 to 72 cm. Total volume of trees with the diameter of up to 7 cm, according to the Schumacher-Hall's method, amounts to 27, 06 m3 and of those with up to 3 cm diameter 28, 27 m3. 19, 00 m3 of roundwood timber was crosscut. Total bark volume on the logs amounts to 2, 79 m3 or 12, 09% i.e. 0, 465 m3 per tree. Cordwood volume of trees with up 3 cm diameter amounts to 6, 27 m3 or 22, 18%. Branches with 3 to 7cm diameter amount to 0, 424 m3 or 1, 5% and the volume of branches with the diameter of less than 3 cm amounts to 0, 328 m3 or 1, 16% with the rootstock volume of 0, 435 m3 or 1, 54%. Total crown energy wood amounts to 6, 60 m3 or 1, 10 m3 per tree.
