Geothermal Energy in Croatia - Program of Geothermal Energy Utilization
Croatia has centuries-long tradition of using geothermal energy from natural springs for medical purposes. In the early 70s together with research for oil and gas, the appearance of geothermal water started being observed. The data obtained were used to compute the geothermal gradient (average 0.049°C/m) which are considerably above the European average (0.03°C/m). Since geothermal energy was separately studied by different institutions, a National Energy Program for Geothermal Energy Utilisation was established with the objective to unify and promote the knowledge and experience in this energy field. This paper contains an overview of the preliminary results of the study on the program.
