HARD TURNING OF BEARING RACEWAY

Application of ceramic inserts in machining of large diameter ball bearing raceway surface, previously hardened (2 mm in depth on 56 +3 HRc), fulfils our expectances in bearing ring productivity increase. This finishing procedure is satisfactory in achieving demanded raceway quality and ensure machining time reduction. Quality is achieved even the hard turning process is disturbed with load impacts on cutting tool resulting from high hardness drop (750 to 200 HV) which appears at the start/finish position of induction hardening. Tests were performed on bearing rings produced of Ck45N which has to be mounted on a heavy duty machines (lifts, bulldozer, loader etc.) and exploited at low rotation speeds.
