The european corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hubner) on corn in East Croatia
The corn production in Croatia has a great economical importance. The main areas are in the East part of the country where more than 450 000 hectares could be sown every year. Slavonia and Baranya are on the top of the corn production in our country. One of the most important pests on corn in European Corn Borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hubner). Population dynamics of the pest were recorded from 1971 on two localities. Intensity of attack on 20-50 hybrids of the FAO groups 100 to 700 was recoreded every year, in order to find out some tolerant hybrids on this pest. All hybrids were attacked by this pest every year, and average intensity of attack for this 25 years was 37,08%. The lowest attack was 3,32% in 1980 and the highest was 98,44% in 1987. At harvesting time the higest number of tunnels and larvaes was below the ear at the all FAO groups. The highest intensity of attack was at FAO groups 400,500 and 600. We noticed that in these 25 years up to 1985 the attack of corn borer was below 50% and later was above 50% and specially last five years it was 62,39%.
