Women in sociology : example of Croatia
Women’ s issues are one of the frameworks of social sciences critiques as well as critiques of sociology. In context of Croatia as transitional country we want to realize in which way are women represented in science research, science literature and in science system. Women’ s status in society has direct repercussion on women’ s status in science including women as scientists or as research subject. We claim that women in science (as research subject or scientists) are in very complex position, even more complex than before 1990ies. We hold that women in science are in the same time in less unfavourable and more adverse situation comparing to pretransitional period. After 1990 conditional liberalisation took place which provoked public discussion on women’ s rights. In the same time under influence of increasing religiousness strong retraditionalization happened and located women in her traditional role in family, home and children. From the prism of rejecting idea of science as neutral, our objective is to explore to what extent sociological production in Croatia is subject to given processes.
