Comparative examinations of admixtures to cement

The aim of this paper has been to present the results of laboratory experiments regarding applicability of cement admixtures when comparative examination methods were used. Various commercial admixtures have been used, in different quantities. Special attention has been paid to hydration of cement in presence of admixtures. The calorimetrical, electrochemical, and spectrophotometrical methods have been used to indicate the changes in development of hydration in presence of admixtures to cement particles. In some cases, the physical and mechanical properties of the samples have been determined. The measurement results are presented graphically and in tables ; a comparative analysis has been carried out. On the basis of data and results obtained, some conclusions have been reached regarding the influence of admixtures on the hydration mechanism and kinetics, as well as determination of the optimal quantity of admixture to the cement.
