Structure of gender differences in distribution of skin folds in children at early school age
Cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 93 boys and 106 girls at the age 7 to 9. The children, who attend two primary schools in Zagreb, were divided into subsamples by age and gender. The research was conducted with the aim of establishing the status of morphological characteristics – indicator of skin folds, fat percentage and body mass index of boys and girls at the age 7 to 10 and difference of the system of morphological characteristics with respect to age and gender. It is concluded that there is signifi cant gender dimorphism at early school age where growth and development and related changes of morphological signifi cance are more dominant in girls. A higher discriminative coeffi cient of the system of skin folds between age groups is evident in girls which can be related with a closer age to adolescent development. The proven gender dimorphism should be taken into consideration when determining the burden in all organizational types of work with these age groups.
