Intra-varietal Variability in Croatian olive Cv. Lastovka
Croatian olive cultivar Lastovka is mainly used for oil production, Its fruity yield is high and regular but due to sensitivity to low temperatures its growing area is limited, with production concentrated on the island of Korcula. Different morphological types have been observed in production. In order to determine the intra-varietal variability 57 trees of cv. Lastovka were analysed for 12 morphological traits and assessed by AFLP markers. Although a great intra-varietal variability in morphological traits has been detected, the AFLP polymorphism was rather low. Consequently, it seems that the most of the intra-varietal morphological diversity is attributable to ecological conditions and/or cultivation practices.
