Vibration analysis of heat exchangers of nitric acid plant
This paper deals with practical problem in the process industry. Two heat exchangers of the nitric acid synthesis plant are analyzed. Detailed calculation and vibration analysis have identified the problem with vibration of the first heat exchanger. When the vibration problem does occur, there are possible several steps to take for its removal. A study was made for five different types of baffles to determine how their number and spacing influence the cross-flow velocity of the fluid. Simulation was performed using chemical process simulation software ChemCAD and its integrated module CC-THERM. Simulation results showed that this problem cannot be removed completely, but it can be reduced considerably with different type of baffles. Also the analysis showed that the secound heat exchanger does not have such a problem.
