Tram track paving with micro fibre reinforced concrete plate in urban areas
The tram tracks in the Zagreb centre are paved with reinforced concrete plates. The total tram network includes 120-km tracks with 167 turnouts, of which 90 are entry that can be automatically controlled from the tram vehicle. To make vehicular traffic reasonably safe, a large number of turnouts have been equipped with protective system operates on the principle of ‘ blocking circuit’ . However, if large quantities of steel masses are located in the vicinity of turnout zone, the function of protective system is disrupted. To reduction of steel masses, the track pavement with polypropylene fibres reinforcement concrete plate was first time applied on Kvaternik square in Zagreb. The results obtained from measurement of switch parameters carried out after installation of such plates were more than satisfactory. This solution is very suitable for track paving in the zone of turnouts.
