Air Traffic Management Evolution from Croatian Point of View

The paper deals, apart from the summarised evaluation of the present condition (comparative analysis of the pre- and post-war period), with the development guidelines of the Croatian air traffic within the context of the European countries integration process, articulated in the sense of an integral European air traffic management by the EATCHIP, i.e. EATMS project. Apart from the reconstruction of the air traffic infrastructure damaged in the war, the actual period in Croatia has been marked by the institutional and normative co-ordination of the air traffic system, first of all by the commercialisation of the air traffic control system as well as by preparing and updating a series of subordinate legislation and documents related to the new Air Traffic Act (accepted in October 1998). The strategic orientation of Croatia towards Euro-Atlantic integration dictates also the need for implementing the international standards, especially the JAA standards system, into the national aviation regulations. The positive development projection is based on the reintegration of the existing international air routes (overflights), as well as on the assumptions of tracing a new corridor (the Adriatic), which would contribute in a wider region to a more rational usage of geo-traffic facilities and take the load of the existing European corridors. From the aspect of her geo-traffic position, the Croatian airspace provides the possibility of choosing the shortest air routes between North-west Europe and the Near East.
