The Impact of the Ultrasound Treatment on Surface Properties and Morphology of Wool Fibres
The paper discuss the impact of the ultrasound treatment on surface characteristics and morphology of wool fibres, investigated as a part of comprehensive investigations of the possibilities of purposeful modification of textile fibres employing ultrasound. Surface appearance and characteristics are analysed using SEM microscopy and the indirect methods of testing friction properties. For this purpose the test methods of abrasion resistance and felt ability of wool fibres before ultrasound treatment and after it, are employed. In order to determine possible changes in the fine structure regularity of wool fibres during ultrasound treatment, the crimp intensity is measured. The experimental results indicate that the ultrasound treatment offers particular effect of cleaning and smoothening fibre surface, which results in an increase of fibre abrasion resistance and in decrease the felt ability of wool fibres. The changes in crimp contraction suggest that the ultrasound treatment has a beneficial impact on bilateralism of fibre structure of fine wool fibres.
