Forensic Approach to Aramide Fiber Identification
The successful investigation and prosecution of crimes require, in most cases, the collection, preservation and forensic analysis of evidence. Fiber and textile evidence can provide evidence of an association in criminal cases. The individual microscopic fibers that comprise the variety of textile materials in the world can be transferred from person to person and non textile surfaces, indicating what environment someone has been in. It is the job of the forensic fiber examiner to be familiar with all of the different types of fibers on the market and to know which are most commonly used and which are rare. This is often a difficult task as the textile market is constantly changing, producing new fibers, finishes, colors, shapes etc. This paper deals with aramide fibers, as one of the high performance fibers that are not so common in crime cases but the appearance of which in textile trace evidences can cause problems in forensic fibers identification.
