Effects of unconventional material usage in road construction on environmental and energy savings
Transportation of goods and people is nowdays conducted in many ways ; by roads, by railways, by air or water ways. In the last few years the growth of all kind of transportation systems, especially road transportation is intensive. By constructing miles of roads and highways, the influence of road transportation on water, air, soil, plant and animal life, and human itself, is in progress. Modern road construction, because of environmental and energy savings, is attempting to increase usage of unconventional materials. This paper describes materials such as fly ash, waste glass and used automotive tires which might be used as materials for road construction. By using those materials we save energy necessary for processing standard road construction materials and contribute to environment savings.
