Braids of vortex filaments generated by laser on metal surface
This paper demonstrates that micro-scale vortex filaments can be spontaneously generated in laser-matter interactions (LMI) on an ns time scale. It also demonstrates that vortex filaments (as the basic entities) give rise to self-organized structures, the complexity of which ranges from simple 'helical pairing' to the braiding of 3, 4 and 5 strings, with very intriguing topological properties. Finally, this paper indicates that LMI can generate the 'model structures' of vortex filament organisation - not possible by the other methods - and bring them into study.
