The use of the “ ALARA” dosimeter in personal dose assessment in nuclear medicine procedures
Personal radiation doses have been measured with electronic dosimeters (ALARA, IMI) in typical nuclear medicine procedures. The characterisation of dosimeters and energy response was first estimated with Ra-226, Cs-137 and Tc-99m point sources. In personal dose monitoring programme, the most exposed group (mean 33.2 microSv/day) was the group of technicians preparing the individual doses and performing bone and thyroid scans. Much lower doses were observed in another group of technicians who conducted brain scintigraphy, ventriculography and immunoscintigraphy. In remaining groups the doses recorded were at the level of 3-4 microSv/day.
