Biochemistry and Immunology Intersections
Immunology is the most prominent biomedical science. Biochemical understanding is crucial for new insights in the plenty of immunological data available in the recent publications. Therefore, four of us editors, biochemists from four main Croatian universities (Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Osijek), have joined our minds and completed this review book. First articles deal with different classes of proteins as well as with steps of their synthesis and immunity. Glycosphingolipids are described as secondary gene products, produced by distinct glycosyltransferase acivities that modulate immune and other cell function. Furthermore, immunologically based diseases and disorders are described. And finally, recent advances in regulation of cellular growth and apoptosis, and innate and adaptive immune responses are summarized. This biochemical view of immunology is additionally refined by authors who come from university hospitals, resulting in required biochemistry and immunology intersections.
