In-vivo dosimetry in radiotherapy: an IAEA co-ordinated research project
The dosimeter intrinsic characteristics (energy and angular dependence, fading, non-linearity, dose rate dependence) and clinically related corrections (wedge, tray, field size, SSD dependence) have been determined. A set of build-up caps for TLD and OSL measurements has been developed by the IAEA and tested by the CRP participants. Secondly, verification of the methodology for in vivo dosimetry on a Rando Alderson phantom was performed. Measurement procedures were developed and documented to obtain adequate measurement precision, e.g., the reproducibility of on-phantom measurements within 3% (1 standard deviation). Clinical evaluations have been conducted with entrance dose measurements on patients treated for pelvic tumours, head and neck, breast and other sites. Participants have compared TLDs with MOS FETs, TLDs with OS L, diodes with MOS FETs, and diodes with OS L dosimeters in a clinical use.
