The HGI-CGS consists of three departments: the Department of Geology, the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology and the Department of Mineral Resources, as well as an on-site library and laboratory. 2. Data policy issues The data delivery is in the paper form and CD/DVD-ROM. 3. Hardware — recent trends HGI has invested in the new generation of HP Proliant servers, and new network equipment that supports 802.1x authentication. 4. Major developments, goals achieved 5.1. Achievement 1 The physical model of the Geological Information System has been finished. This model makes logical connections between all thematic entities, such as geological, structural-tectonic, hydrogeological, engineering-geological, geochemical and geomorphological data. Achievement 2 The digital field manual is now being used by geologists for the input of new and old data. 5.3. Achievement 3 Significant effort was made to improve security: a firewall for protecting local network and internal servers, and authentication using 802.1x standard will soon be implemented. 6. Problems encountered 6.1. Problem 1 GIS is developing separately in the different departments. 6.2. Problem 2 The lack of standards for data entry. 6.3. Problem 3 The majority of data are still in paper form or in the unstandardized digital form. 7. Conclusions, future plans and strategies Implementation of Geological Information System and set up web GIS intranet and internet browsers The integration of all existing databases into a unified Geological Information System Continuing work on the standardization of the geological data International cooperation has been increasing in geology especially in geochemistry
