Using Gestures to Teach Vocabulary for Long-Term Retention
The paper reports on the results of the study investigating the effectiveness of using gestures with young learners to teach vocabulary by comparing it with the outcomes of instruction relying on traditional props. The results showed a continuous and better long-term acquisition of vocabulary by the experimental subjects. It is suggested that the depth and distinctiveness of processing explains the significant difference between learner outcomes.
