Measurements of Energetic Material Dynamic Properties using Ultrasound

Ultrasound technology is conventionally used in non-invasive characterization of materials. Here we discuss the possibility of using the ultrasound for measuring the propellant burning rate. The problems associated with it are connected with the finite width of ultrasound pulse that is partially reflected from the flame region, and with the amount of energy the ultrasound wave transfers to the energetic material molecules.
