PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF MAINLAND – ČIOVO BRIDGE IN TROGIR

The Croatian Road authority announced the competition for the new mainland – Čiovo Bridge in Trogir in July 2007. Six proposals were offered and a continuous steel beam bridge proposal was awarded the first prize. Since the Trogir old town is under protection of UNESCO, the terms of competition were very restrictive. The bridge was to be designed as almost invisible with the alignment as low as possible and no structural elements above the roadway. One span of the bridge was to be movable to allow the passage of sailing boats.
